Dr. Sarah Mateles

Dr. Mateles graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. She also holds a bachelor of science degree from M.I.T. and a master of science degree from University of California - Berkeley, both in environmental engineering. Before changing careers, Dr. Mateles worked at an engineering firm and then at Environmental Defense, a national non-profit.

Dr. Mateles has been at Golf Rose Animal Hospital since 2006. Before vet school, she worked as a technician and volunteered at a wildlife rehab clinic in California. She has volunteered on Humane Society of the Unites States Rural Area Veterinary Services trips to Native American reservations in South Dakota.

Dr. Mateles was born in Jerusalem, Israel and grew up in Connecticut. Her husband is a teacher at Elk Grove High School and they have a 6-year old son. They recently adopted Gabi, a Golden Retriever, but the head of their household is Sebastian, a big black and white cat whose previous career was as a live-in feline blood donor at the Ryan Veterinary Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Mateles enjoys hiking with her family, cooking, and reading.
