Dr. M. Lou Kurzeja
Before completing vet school at the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in 1998, Dr. Kurzeja pursued various careers. She lived in Mexico training for the Peace Corps, worked as a school teacher and social worker in Arkansas, was a gourmet chef in New York, and even owned an advertising agency, print shop, and dry cleaners in Chicago. Her undergrad education was at Knox College and University of Arkansas, where she studied English and Spanish.
Dr. Kurzeja started working at Golf Rose Animal Hospital in 1988 as a technician and returned as a veterinarian in 1998. She grew up in Logan Square and Schiller Park. Dr. Kurzeja is married, has one daughter, three grandchildren, four dogs, and three cats. She has owned horses for more than 20 years.
Dr. Kurzeja volunteered at the Brookfield Zoo for almost 20 years and worked with a wildlife rehabber for 3 years. As a veterinarian, she treats cats, dogs, small mammals, reptiles, and birds.
